Valuing Diversity

MillerCoors believes that when we celebrate and foster the differences among people, it enriches our brewery communities, businesses and experiences.

We’ve built and will keep building programs that help promote supplier diversity, a highly skilled and diverse workforce, and diversity awareness and education. We support events and networking organizations for diverse employee groups.

We partner with organizations that celebrate and work on issues important to advancing diversity, including those that support diversity education, urban entrepreneurs, university education, and heritage initiatives.

Partnerships and Investments in the African-American Community

For decades, MillerCoors has worked closely with African-American organizations on various programs, from civil rights, advocacy, economic development, and employment, to sponsorships, scholarships, and leadership and youth development initiatives. Our achievements in the African-American community have been recognized by local and national organizations. We also strive to develop a workforce that reflects the marketplace. We place great emphasis on recruiting qualified African-Americans to work at MillerCoors, and we partner with a number of high-profile organizations to find promising candidates.

Very importantly, we work to increase opportunities for African-Americans through education and entrepreneurship. Two programs in particular help us achieve these goals.

Thurgood Marshall College Fund

We are the founding corporate sponsor of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), which provides four-year merit scholarships to students attending the 47 historically black public colleges and universities. The fund also provides scholarships to law schools at Texas Southern, North Carolina Central, Southern University and A&M College, Howard University, Florida A&M, and the University of the District of Columbia. Since 1987, the program has awarded more than $60 million in scholarships and support to students and member schools.

Miller Urban Entrepreneurs Series

The award-winning Miller Urban Entrepreneurs Series (MUES) responds to the needs of adults, ages 21 and older, who want to achieve economic empowerment through entrepreneurship. Since 1999, we have given hundreds of aspiring entrepreneurs access to expert advice and the tools that they need not only to advance in or win our annual business plan competition but to succeed in obtaining financial resources that will help them take their business to the next level. Outstanding urban entrepreneurs like filmmaker Spike Lee, entertainment mogul Russell Simmons, and radio leader Cathy Hughes, have each given our aspiring entrepreneurs the real-world advice that they needed to develop a winning strategy to succeed in their business of choice.

Partnerships and Investments in the Asian-American Community

MillerCoors works closely with national and local Asian-American organizations, and supports programs to meet the needs of pan-Asian immigrant communities and families. These initiatives also honor our business partners and their diverse backgrounds. Through our work, we have supported organizations that are dedicated to preserving traditions of Asian-Americans living in the U.S. We have received a number of prestigious awards in recognition of our commitment to Asian-Americans in the workplace.

Partnerships and Investments in the Hispanic Community

We were the first company in the country to create economic development pacts aimed at increasing opportunities for Hispanic businesses and investment in Hispanic communities. We’ve invested more than $1 billion in corporate contributions, banking and financial work, procurement, advertising, marketing and public relations. And we always work to ensure that Hispanic employees receive support and have the ability to influence the decision-making process.

Very importantly, we work to increase opportunities for Latinos through education and leadership-training opportunities. Our Miller Urban Entrepreneurs Series helps us achieve this goal, as do two other programs.

¡Adelante! U.S. Education Leadership Fund

We partnered with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) in 1993 to establish a college education degree program that is now the ¡Adelante! U.S. Education Leadership Fund. The fund offers a unique three-tiered model for investing in Latino students through scholarship, internship, and leadership training programs. The goal of the ¡Adelante! Fund is to inspire the best and brightest Latino students to graduate and to lead. Every student who has participated in this program has either earned a bachelor's degree or is actively pursuing a master's degree.

Lideres

The Lideres program was launched in 2006 to showcase Hispanic leaders.  Phase one included national and local print ads highlighting selected Hispanic community leaders. The second phase of the project, launched in 2007, provided Gallup leadership training to more than 500 Hispanic leaders around the country. The leaders in the print ads and in the leadership training workshops are as diverse as the Hispanic community itself.

Partnerships and Investments in the Lesbian and Gay Community

MillerCoors supports collaboration and partnership with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, and we’ve developed national and regional initiatives to support LGBT employees and causes. Annually, we support a wide range of health and AIDS causes, community groups and pride events nationwide. Inside our organization, we provide sensitivity training and offer educational, social and support opportunities.

Partnerships and Investments for the Military and Veterans

MillerCoors offers a number of initiatives to support the men and women who have served, or currently serve, in the United States military. We maintain an active program to recruit newly returned veterans for positions at the company. And we work with our employees who are veterans to address workplace issues and provide educational programs.

Partnerships and Investments for Women

MillerCoors values women as a vital part of our workforce, our community and our company’s success. We’ve developed several key initiatives to support our female employees, suppliers and women-related causes. For example, in Milwaukee, we fund the Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation, which has served more than 30,000 individuals, directly financed more than 500 business startups, supported more than 150 business expansions and assisted in creating more than 2,700 jobs since its inception. In addition, as a member of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, MillerCoors supports local and regional minority- and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs) across the country. We work hard to identify and develop minority and women suppliers and eliminate any barriers to business development.

Business Partnerships with Minority-Based Enterprises

We’re dedicated to working with suppliers who are as diverse as our customers. Our commitment to Supplier Diversity encompasses our entire business. It goes beyond the economic impact we have on Minority-Business Enterprises (MBEs) and into support for minority business councils nationally and locally. We’re focused on establishing personal goals and accountability for operations executives; providing leaders in procurement roles with diversity tools and training; and participating in activities that support supplier development and diversity.
