Community Efforts

We know our economic impact is only part of our community story. Our philanthropy and social investment run long and deep, all the way back to our founders.

We invest in communities strategically, with the goal of having the greatest positive impact. We invest whatever it takes—money, knowledge, employee time and equipment—to make sure that we help communities flourish.

Brewery communities also contribute generously to United Way and other volunteer programs.

Employment

Employment and jobs build our communities’ economic strength. People need training and sustainable employment. Communities need entrepreneurs and successful businesses. Companies like MillerCoors need highly skilled and qualified employees. Because of these needs, we invest in many initiatives that promote entrepreneurship, job creation and job training. A few examples:

In North Carolina, we invest in the Rockingham Community College Train and Gain program. Our employees helped develop the curriculum for this two-year accredited mechanical engineering program. Since 2005, 22 students have completed the program and retained employment thanks to our investment.

In California, we sponsor the Baldwin Park Adult and Community education program, accredited by the California Department of Education and State Licensing Board of Electricians. The program provides skills and development opportunities through an accredited electrical engineering training program that last year graduated 70 students who secured employment as a result.

In Milwaukee, we fund the Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation, which has served more than 30,000 individuals, directly financed more than 500 business startups, supported more than 150 business expansions and assisted in creating more than 2,700 jobs since its inception.

AIDS/HIV

AIDS/HIV, one of the most significant epidemics of our time, is a local and global concern. The best hope of stemming the spread of the disease lies in prevention, treatment and education.

Community-based efforts are critical in the battle. We support these life-saving efforts by investing in community-based organizations that provide services from awareness and counseling to treatment.

One example is the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin. The ARCW is the largest and fastest-growing provider of HIV health care in the state. It provides quality medical, dental and mental health services to more than 1,100 patients in Milwaukee and Kenosha, serving a diverse population regardless of economic status. More than half of its patients are either uninsured or on Medicaid. In 2006, the medical center provided $1.1 million in uncompensated care to uninsured HIV patients. We have contributed more than $1 million to the center since its founding in 1985, making us one of the top sponsors.

Community Culture

MillerCoors supports long-standing cultural, ethnic and festive experiences that build upon the heritage of our communities and positively impact our business.

Local festivals, city marathons, zoos, museums and the arts reflect a community's traditions and bring neighbors together. From fun times with friends at a summer festival or ethnic fair to a charitable bicycle ride for the arts, these experiences that we often sponsor or support bind communities and are an important part of our heritage.

Volunteerism

Volunteerism is not just a tradition at MillerCoors; it’s a legacy. We believe in supporting the communities where we live, work and sell our beer. In 2007, MillerCoors employees, retirees, family and friends devoted almost 50,000 hours to help others and our communities. We gave more than time, too; together MillerCoors people gave almost $1 million in 2007 to United Way and other charitable causes.

Funding

We’re consistently recognized by national and local groups as a leading corporate citizen. We take pride in our progressive practices and our record on community support and corporate social performance. We partner with leading nonprofit groups to address community, civic and industry issues. Our primary focus? Supporting select organizations whose work enhances the quality of life in communities where we brew. We support organizations with cash grants for charity-related programs; products for fundraising events; and MillerCoors volunteers. Read our funding guidelines.

Responsibility

Alcoholic beverages, when consumed responsibly, can add to the social enjoyment of many occasions. When misused or abused, however, the effects can be detrimental and put individuals and communities at risk. MillerCoors plays a meaningful role in promoting and encouraging responsibility in community programs all over the country. Responsibility is an integral part of our culture, and it is vital to the long-term health of our business and our communities. See the True Responsibility section of this site for more information about specific programs.
