Miller Lite Free Rides™ Offers Free Bus and Trolley Service On Derby Eve in Louisville

To encourage Louisville residents and Kentucky Derby visitors to plan ahead and never drive drunk, Miller Lite Free Rides is partnering with the Transit Authority of River City (TARC), Kentucky Derby Festival and River City Distributing to offer free bus and trolley service on Derby Eve.

“Our goal with Miller Lite Free Rides is to reinforce the importance of planning ahead for a safe ride to and from the evening festivities surrounding the Kentucky Derby,” said Diane Wagner, manager of alcohol responsibility for MillerCoors. “We believe drunk driving is completely preventable and we thank those individuals who will help keep the roads safer by riding the bus on us this Derby Eve.”

The Miller Lite Free Rides program will offer free bus and trolley rides on Friday, May 1, from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m. Route and schedule information is available at www.MillerLiteFreeRides.com or by calling 1-800-FREE RIDES (1-800-373-3743). The program will provide bus and trolley service on all regularly scheduled routes, which service many popular Derby Eve destinations including restaurants, bars, local family events, neighborhood celebrations and the Miller Lite-sponsored Derby Eve Jam concert at the Waterfront on May 1.

“The Miller Lite Free Rides program is a great example of the convenience of using public transportation on popular celebrations, during community events and throughout the year,” said J. Barry Barker, executive director for the Transit Authority of River City. “We encourage community members and visitors to take advantage of the free bus and trolley service on Derby Eve to ensure people get to and from their destinations safely.”

“The Kentucky Derby Festival produces a number of events and has a rich heritage in the Louisville area,” said Mike Berry, president and CEO of the Kentucky Derby Festival. “We appreciate Miller Lite Free Rides for providing festival visitors and residents alike with a safe transportation option on Derby Eve”

“We are proud to be involved in the Miller Lite Free Rides program taking place on Derby Eve this year,” said Mike Renzi, vice president of sales for River City Distributing. “We want to encourage everyone out celebrating to drink responsibly and plan ahead for a safe ride home.”

Miller Lite Free Rides is one of the many initiatives MillerCoors has implemented to encourage alcohol responsibility through its commitment to drunk driving prevention. The Free Rides program has successfully helped prevent drunk driving throughout its 22 year history by taking more than 1.7 million cars off the road during key holidays. MillerCoors also partners with 1-800-TAXICAB, a national taxi dispatch service, to remind customers that there's always an alternative to driving under the influence. Locating a cab is easy; consumers dial the toll free number, and no matter where they are, the local taxi company will respond.
