Beer Here! Beer Vendors Get Their Spotlight In July
They bring great-tasting Miller Lite to millions of White Sox fans every season, but go largely unnoticed during a ballgame. Their bellowing calls of “Get your beer here” blend into the myriad background noises at the ballpark, and chances are you’ve never known the name of a beer vendor who sold you a tall, cold one during a game.
That’s all about to change. For all remaining White Sox home games in July, fans will get to vote for their favorite beer vendor. The winner will get to toss out the first pitch at an August White Sox game, be shown on the center field scoreboard and have their likeness used for a 2010 Miller Lite promotional bobblehead giveaway.
“Listen, we can only brew great-tasting Miller Lite,” said Sherry Courtney, field marketing manager for MillerCoors. “It’s up to the hundreds of hard-working, under-appreciated beer vendors to get our beer in the hand of our consumers. Without them, the baseball game experience would be completely different.”
“White Sox baseball is about passion, pride and tradition in everything we do – on and off the field,” said Brooks Boyer, White Sox vice president and chief marketing officer. “There are few who demonstrate those qualities more than the hard-working men and women who serve fans at U.S. Cellular Field; now, Sox fans have the opportunity to show those folks how much they appreciate their hard work by rewarding their favorite Miller Lite vendor.”
During the third inning of every July White Sox home game, fans are encouraged to text the name of their favorite beer vendor to a designated code to help their candidate win Beer Vendor of the Year. Results will be updated during the seventh inning of each game, and a winner will be announced during the July 31 game against the New York Yankees. Then, during a 2010 promotion, some 20,000 lucky, legal-drinking-age fans will receive an official Miller Lite Beer Vendor Bobblehead in the likeness of the winning beer-hawker.
