Coors Light Partners with Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets

MILLERCOORS AND SAM SANDOS CHRISTMAS BASKETS HELP FEED DENVER-AREA FAMILIES DURING THE HOLIDAY

Through Cena en el Barrio more than 2,000 Hispanic Families receive food baskets

GOLDEN and Milwaukee (December xx, 2008) – MillerCoors will team up with Coors Distributing Company (CDC) for the Sam Sandos “Christmas Baskets” program. The program helps make the holiday season a lot tastier by helping to feed thousands of Hispanic families in the Denver area.

Starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, December 20th, at North High School, 2960 N. Speer Blvd., hundreds of volunteers, including members of MillerCoors Hispanic Employee Network and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, will assemble and deliver food baskets throughout the city.

“MillerCoors is proud of its seven year partnership with Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets, which every year grows to serve more and more Denver-area Hispanic families. This year, we will be able to help approximately 2,000 families,” said Joedis Avila, Multicultural Relations manager for MillerCoors. He noted that MillerCoors will be donating $10,000 to help buy food and support the drive as well as providing more than 50 employee volunteers.

Patrick Sandos, director of Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets, said MillerCoors and CDC’s continued involvement has been key to the program’s success over the years.

“MillerCoors and Coors Distributing Company have been long-time partners and have contributed to the program’s growing impact each year. We’re happy their commitment will continue to make the holidays a little brighter for thousands of families,” Sandos said. The baskets contain holiday food items to feed a family of four-to-six people.

CHEN and CDC volunteers will be joined by the Sandos family, Denver City Council members, Denver Fire Department and the Denver Sheriff’s Office to sort and deliver food.

In 1975, former Denver City Council member Sam Sandos started the program out of his kitchen to feed hungry constituents during the holidays. During the first year, he fed 40 families. In 1978, Sam Sandos and Joe Lucero joined forces with St. Vincent De Paul Society to feed 200 families. The Sandos family now carries on his commitment to the community every year through this holiday giving tradition. Corporate sponsorship and volunteers have helped the organization increase distribution to assist more families each year.

“We are strongly committed to supporting the communities where we live and do business. Through Cena en el Barrio, we are proud to be able to have a direct and positive impact on the Hispanic community in Denver,” Avila said.

Tax-deductible donations can be made by sending a check to Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets, P.O. Box 370945, Denver, CO 80237-0945.
