“This year marks the 5th anniversary of the MillerCoors Líderes program, and we couldn’t be more excited about having such an incredible group representing true Latino leadership. Each one of them deserves to win the MillerCoors 2011 Líder of the Year award – it’s going to be a tough competition,” says Jose Ruano, multicultural relations manager for MillerCoors. “We are proud to continue highlighting those who contribute to their communities, while excelling in their careers and serving as role models for future generations.”
The general public can vote from September 12 through October 31 on www.MillerCoorsLideres.com. The leader with the most votes will be named the MillerCoors 2011 Líder of the Year and will receive a $25,000 grant to develop and implement a community leadership program with his/her sponsoring nonprofit organization and MillerCoors.
National and community-based organizations nominated individuals who were deeply involved in their community. After receiving numerous nominations for candidates from across the country, MillerCoors used the Nomination Criteria for MillerCoors Líderes and consulted Dr. Robert Rodriguez, the author of the book Latino Talent, to narrow the list down to these twelve leaders.
“Thanks to the $25,000 given to my sponsoring nonprofit, Parents Step Ahead, after being chosen as the MillerCoors 2010 Líder of the Year, I was able to develop a leadership workshop for parents in my hometown of Dallas,” said Raúl Magdaleno, volunteer for Parents Step Ahead. “Most important, I realized there is a great need for programs like MillerCoors Líderes that foster leadership development. With this in mind, I decided to start my own nonprofit to help Latinos in my community realize their potential and become leaders in their own right.”
Since 2006, the MillerCoors Líderes program has raised awareness and highlighted the achievements of national and local leaders within the Hispanic community through an online public voting competition and a national advertising campaign. The program offers up-and-coming Latino professionals leadership tools, counsel and the opportunity to network through www.MillerCoorsLideres.com, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
